Tom Riggs is a freelance watercolor artist currently living in Fort Collins, Colorado with his wife, Linda. He has traveled throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. Some of his most recent journeys have been to: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; New York City; Columbus, Ohio; York, Pennsylvania; Washington, D.C.; Cocoa Beach, Florida. These travels are often the inspiration for his watercolor work. Equally at home painting a Venice canal or a rural Colorado barn, Tom looks for interesting structures, light patterns and people as the central focus of his work.
When Tom is not painting he loves to run. Two marathons a year is his average, but he has run as many as five in one year and has now completed 30 marathons overall. He is the official artist for the Colorado Marathon and has created the artwork for the finishers' print each year the race has been run. He has run marathons on both coasts and has run the Boston marathon twice.
A self taught artist all his life, Tom began painting in watercolors in 1993. The way the paint flows, the many different effects possible, and the lack of obnoxious odors are some of the reasons he was attracted to this medium. He has won several awards for his work including "Best of Show" at the 31st Cheyenne Artists Guild competition.
A firm believer that everybody should do what they love, Tom does freelance and commissioned work in several mediums including pastel, pen and ink, watercolor, airbrushing and cartooning. His work appears in a variety of places from private collections, t-shirts, nursery walls and Old Town Art and Framery in downtown Fort Collins.
